Model: Limited Edition Carrera Skipper for HODINKEEĭimensions: 39mm diameter 11mm thickness The result is, in our (biased) opinion, one of the coolest chronographs we've seen in a while. The modern caliber 18 automatic movement allowed for the addition of a date complication, positioned opposite the regatta countdown as a nod to the vintage Heuer Carrera “Dato 45.” This caliber also allowed us to offer the "cyclops" look – meaning that the watch has a single sub-register – in addition to the bold colors of the Skipper. The modern 39mm case features the same iconic faceted lugs as the original 35mm Carrera case, plus a domed sapphire crystal offering a similar profile to the plexi used in vintage models. The regatta countdown features the same characteristic bold tri-color layout, but in updated 10-minute intervals. The “new” Skipper is not a carbon copy of the reference 7754, but a modern interpretation featuring all of the design elements we love from vintage Heuer. The reference 7754, nicknamed the “Skipperera” after its Carrera case, was commissioned by Heuer in 1967 to commemorate Emil Mosbacher’s victory on the yacht Intrepid at the America’s Cup, and is now considered to be one of the most collectible vintage Heuers in the world. Say hello to the Limited Edition Carrera Skipper. Why This Watch Matters At HODINKEE, we love vintage chronographs, and today we are reviving one of our collective favorite chronographs of all time with the help of TAG Heuer.
